Ottawa, Ontario
The Canadian Equestrian Federation, Jump Canada
and Spruce Meadows are pleased to announce that Spruce Meadows will
continue to host the Canadian Jumping Championship.
Spruce Meadows, Canada’s premier equestrian facility located in Calgary,
AB, will award the ‘Canadian Jumper Champion’ title for the next five
years, commencing with the 2000 show season. The annual Canadian
Jumping Championship has been decided at Spruce Meadows since 1976.
This year’s Canadian Jumper Champion will be named on the final day of
competition at the Spruce Meadows National tournament, May 31-June 4,
2000.
To determine the 2000 National Jumper Champion, riders will be awarded
points in four designated classes. The classes are the Luscar Cup on
May 31, the Inland Cup on June 1, the Canadian Pacific World Cup on June
3, and the Shell Cup Derby on June 4. Only riders representing Canada
may earn points toward the Canadian Jumper Champion title.
Once again, CBC television will provide coverage from the Spruce Meadows
National tournament. Viewers can catch two of the classes that will
count towards the Canadian Jumper Champion title. The $100,000 Canadian
Pacific World Cup, which also acts as the first Olympic Selection Trial
for the Canadian Show Jumping Team, will be broadcast live on June 3
while the $150,000 Shell Cup Derby will air on June 10. CBC will also
broadcast the Atco Double Slalom on June 17.
Other Canadian television coverage from the Spruce Meadows National will
include the TransCanada Parcours de Chasse on June 17 and the National
Post Riders Cup on July 29, both on CTV Sportsnet.
