Execetive Board Meeting - 18 July 2000 - FEI/BCM World Jumping Rankings: Hugo Simon in Top 10 - In Memoriam: Susan Bond died - EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING - 18 JULY 2000

The Executive Board met on the18th July in Madrid. The following decisions were taken : The FEI confirmed its commitment to the development of equestrian sport by agreeing to make a minimum fixed sum available to the Development Fund every year. The Executive Board has asked the Finance Committee to finalise this amount, which will come into effect in 2001. The new Treasurer, Mr Guilherme de Moraes Sarmento, was appointed as member of the FEI Co-ordination Commission for the World Equestrian Games 2002.

The Executive Board approved the enforcement of a number of recommendations of the Eventing Safety Committee. These modifications to the Eventing rules will come into force from January 1st 2001. (The full changes will be published shortly in the FEI Bulletin.) The next phase of the Strategic Plan dealing with action, responsibilities and timeline was approved.

An FEI delegation composed of the FEI President, the 1st Vice President, the Secretary General and the Manager of the FEI Olympic Department will visit Athens to inspect the Olympic Equestrian Venues for 2004 and to check on the progress to date.

FEI/BCM WORLD JUMPING RANKINGS : HUGO SIMON IN TOP 10

Hugo Simon, who last year dropped as far down in the World Ranking as 33rd is back in the Top Ten. Also back in the Top Ten, after an absence of only one month, is young Marcus Ehning who had a very successful Aachen. Simon and Ehning replace Thierry Pomel and Jerry Smit who dropped to 13th and 14th respectively. Alexandra Ledermann is the new Top woman rider she moved from 33rd to 20th place, overtaking Lesley Mcnaught (21) Helena Weinberg (22) and Alison G. Firestone (23). IN MEMORIAM

Susan Bond, a member of the 1990 Australian Jumping team at the World Equestrian Games in Stockholm (SWE), died on 7 July 2000 after a long illness. She was 41 years old. The only daughter of the first non-US winner of the Americas Cup in Sailing. She rode in 8 Nations Cup for Australia. In 1988, she competed in the 10th World Cup Final in Göteborg (SWE), with her father, Alan Bond, present .
