FIRST VICTORY FOR PAKISTAN IN AN INTERNATIONAL THREE DAY EVENT
Nadeem Noon of Pakistan, with his horse Greystone V, celebrated the first victory of Pakistan in an international Three Day Event by winning CCI* Bromont (CAN).
In the one-star division, Nadeem Noon representing Pakistan in his frist Three Day Event took home the win with 59.8 points. He was tying with American Corinne Ashton on Dobbin, but Noon and the aptly named Greystone had been closest to the optimum time during the cross-country phase, thus giving him the win.
1996 Olympian Stuart Black (CAN) captured the win at the two-star CCI in Bromont, site of the 1976 Olympic equestrian events.
HANS GÜNTER WINKLER GETS HIGHEST GERMAN SPORTS AWARD
Six-times Olympic Jumping rider, Hans Günter Winkler (GER) is the first recipient of the newly created "Golden Sport Pyramid", the highest German sports trophy to be awarded in Germany.
The "Golden Sports Pyramid" was created this year by the German Sports Support Foundation (Sportshilfe) to honour annually an outstanding German sportsman. The Committee chose Hans Günter Winkler, winner of 7 Olympic medals - of which 5 gold - and participant at 6 Olympic Games (1956 to 1976). Winkler was chosen over such all-time great German sports personalities as Max Schmeling (boxing), Frank Beckenbauer (football), Steffi Graf and Boris Becker (tennis).
The Award was handed to the 75 years old Hans Günter Winkler on 26 May, by the President of Germany, Johannes Rau, at a ceremony in the German National Opera in Berlin.
