Ottawa, ON --- Frankie Chesler of Orangeville, ON, not only won, but
also finished second in the 2000 Jump Canada Series.
Heading into the final event of the Jump Canada Series, the Audi Quattro
World Cup qualifier on November 8 at Toronto's Royal Horse Show, Chesler
was holding down the top two positions, making the 19-year-old her own
toughest competition.
At the Royal Horse Show, Chesler brought her final total in the Jump
Canada Series to 191 points with Ravenna Z, her 11-year-old Hannoverian
mare, to easily capture the win. She also finished second with a total
of 151.2 points with Sylver 2, a 12-year-old Holsteiner gelding that
Chesler only began riding this season.
Finishing in third position was another female rider, Jill Henselwood of
Oxford Mills, ON, with a total of 145.8 points gained with the
10-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Toyzrus.
Canadian Olympic Team member Jonathan Asselin of Calgary, AB, who was
leading the Jump Canada Series at the half-way mark, finished in fourth
place overall with Spirit of Xerox II, a 12-year-old Hannoverian
gelding. Rounding out the top five was Heather Manbert-Serniuk, of
Milton, ON, with her 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Just Julia.
The only rider to have more than one horse in the top ten, Chesler also
finished in sixth position with a third mount, Hanastacia, a 10-year-old
Dutch Warmblood mare owned by Canterbury Farm Inc.
With the Jump Canada Series win, Chesler became the youngest rider to
ever top the standings. Past winners include Beth Underhill in 1999,
John Pearce in 1998, and, in 1997 and 1996, the first two years of the
Jump Canada Series, Ian Millar topped the standings on both occasions.
The Jump Canada Series has proven successful in providing a national
jumper circuit with high standards of competition across the country.
The final standings are calculated using the best six results in a Jump
Canada Series event plus the final event of the series, the Audi Quattro
World Cup qualifier at the Royal Horse Show in Toronto, ON. The
prestigious Jump Canada trophy, generously donated by Barbara Anderson
of Alberta, was awarded to Chesler at the Royal Horse Show. Olympian
John Anderson, Barbara Anderson's son, made the presentation.
