Bedford, New York -
Two Canadian Teams successfully participated in the FEI recognized international university level Student's Nation's Cup at Judy Richter's exquisite Coker Farm. 18 teams from across the world took part in this prestigious catch-riding event. Canada's Team II, consisting team chef Dave Thind, QC, Katy Spiewak, ON and KateWright, ON, finished a praiseworthy 7th place in showjumping as well as a combined 7th in both dressage and jumping. Individually, Thind ranked 11th (showjumping) /15th (combined), Wright 18th (showjumping) / 12th (combined) and Spiewak 35th (showjumping). Canada's team I consisted of team chef Robin Reid-Burke, ON, Erin Meyer, ON, and Kristina Riley, ON - this team finished 16th place. Two unfortunate falls did not allow these equally talented riders to perform at their best. However, it is notable that Meyer finished a commendable 29th (showjumping)/18thth (combined) and Riley finished an equally good 24th in dressage. The competition was exhilarating, well organized and like all student-riding competitions, allowed students across the globe to share their common love for equestrian sports. Since all other Nation's Cups organized by the Association Internationale des Étudiants Cavaliers are held in Europe, the need for sponsorship is still high. In the meantime, under the guidance of national responsible, Anna-Kate Shoveller (AB), the Canadian Universities Riding Clubs Association (CURCA) is considering hosting a Student Rider's Nation's Cup in the Montreal area for August 2000. To obtain information on how to sponsor or join CURCA, please contact Anna-Kate Shoveller at annas@gpu.srv.ualberta.ca / (780) 433-3748 or Dave Thind at dthind@videotron.ca / (450) 926-0283.
