British Horse Society Rescue Center

20 August 2000 11am - 4 pm Stonecroft, Nr Oxhill, Warwickshire

A fun day out for all the family will be Sunday 20 August when the British Horse Society Rescue Centre has its Summer Open Day. Horse lovers everywhere will have the opportunity to see for themselves the work that the BHS does in rescuing neglected and ill treated horses and ponies. Visitors will be able to see the foal born to Fern in April, and even get a chance to name her.

The day will provide the ideal opportunity to meet all the ponies on the "adopt a pony" scheme and learn a little of their history and why the scheme is so important in raising vital funds for the centre. BHS staff will talk about the problems associated with rescuing neglected ponies, and highlight important aspects of pony care: fat ponies can suffer just as much as thin ones, and nutrition and exercise play a vital part in equine welfare.

There will be demonstrations on farriery and tooth care, and on how ponies are rehabilitated once they are restored to health, before the BHS go about finding good knowledgeable homes for them. Some ponies cannot be ridden, and these are looking for loving caring homes. Centre staff will talk about their history and why they deserve a better life.

There will be a "Rehomed Ponies" parade with an award for the 'best turn out' and a 'best progress since re-homing' prize - a chance to celebrate past successes.

The day will be full of fun things to do and see: equestrian displays, raffle, gifts, bookstall, hog roast and barbecue.

Tickets for the Open Day can be obtained in advance from the Welfare Department (Open Day Tickets), Stoneleigh Deer Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire CV8 2XZ. Family tickets £5, adults £2, children under 14 & OAPs £1 (under 5s free) Tickets can be bought at the gate on the day.
