The American Horse Shows Association announced today that John Crowell III has been appointed as Assistant Director of Eventing and Vaulting. He will take up the position at the head office in Lexington on April 24, 2000. Donna Rochetti, Assistant Executive Director - Sport Programs, said, “ We are looking forward to having John on our staff at an exciting time in the development of our sport programs department.” Crowell, from Lexington, KY, has worked as three-day-event groom at numerous international events including the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996. He also served as team manager at the 1995 European Championships in Rome, Italy and was barn manager to international event riders David and Karen O’Connor in Virginia. Crowell graduated from Western Michigan University in 1991 with a Bachelor in Business Administration. He joins the AHSA from Ashford Stud, Versailles, KY, where he was Stallion Accounts Manager. “I’m pretty excited about my appointment and hopefully can bring a lot of experience to the position,” said Crowell who is married to international event rider Dorothy Trapp-Crowell. The American Horse Shows Association, as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 19 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As the country’s largest multi-breed organization, the AHSA has over 70,000 members and recognizes more than 2,600 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards, and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
