The United States Equestrian Team (USET) will host Dressage Olympic Team Selection Trials May 13-14 and May 20-21 at the USET Olympic Training Center in Gladstone, NJ. Twelve rider/horse combinations that have earned the highest grand prix test scores from qualifying classes will be invited by the USET Dressage Committee to compete in the Selection Trials in Gladstone. The first of the two Selection Trials on May 13-14 will consist of the FEI Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special tests. The second of the two Trials on May 20-21 will consist of the FEI Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle tests. A short list of up to five riders and up to eight horses will be chosen based on the highest average percentage scores from the two Selection Trials in Gladstone. These riders and horses will be sent to Europe for a pre-Olympic tour. All of the Short Listed rider/horse combinations will be required to demonstrate their continued preparedness and soundness for the Olympic Games by competing in Grand Prix classes at up to three European competitions. Following the pre-Olympic European tour, the USET Executive Committee will name the U.S. Olympic Dressage Team of four horse-and-rider combinations plus one ranked alternate based on their average Grand Prix scores from the European shows. All athletes to be considered for the Dressage Olympic Team must be US citizens and a minimum of 16 years of age. The rider must be a current member in good standing of the AHSA and USET. The horse must be at least seven years of age and eligible under FEI rules to compete at the level of competition. The horse must also be recorded with the AHSA and in good standing under the AHSA rules. Along with the Dressage Selection Trials for the Sydney Olympic Games, the USET, in conjunction with the United States Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association, will also host Paralympic Dressage trials, May 20-21 at USET Headquarters in Gladstone. The United States Disabled Equestrian Team will represent the United States and compete in Dressage at the Paralympic Games with a team of six riders who will be chosen by competing at qualifying shows and the selection trials at Gladstone. The Dressage Olympic competitions in Sydney, Australia will take place September 26-30, 2000. The Paralympians will compete in the same venue two weeks after the conclusion of the Olympic Games at the Paralympic Games, October 18-29, 2000.
