Lexington, KY Kimberly Vinoski of Scottsville, VA and her bay Thoroughbred gelding, Over the Limit, jumped into the lead Saturday at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented by Bayer. The final and deciding show jumping phase of the U.S. Equestrian Team Olympic selection trial begins on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Vinoski finished the demanding cross-country phase of the four-star competition with no faults. She now heads into the concluding show jumping phase on her dressage score of 39.2 penalty points. Vinoski, the 1999 Rolex Kentucky three-star winner, was thrilled with her horse's performance. "My horse feels pretty happy with himself," she stated about Over the Limit, who is owned by Linda Wachmeister. "The further he went on course, the faster and stronger he got. Having such a small amount of experience at this level, I just wanted to get around and stay on. This competition has exceeded my expectations - it is amazing and a surprise." Close behind Vinoski in second place with 39.4 penalty points is current Olympic and World Champion Blyth Tait of New Zealand and his mount, Welton Envoy, a 13-year-old Thoroughbred-cross. 1999 Pan American Games team gold medalist David O'Connor of The Plains, VA, is in third with a score of 39.8 riding Rattle and Hum, while his wife and defending champion, Karen O'Connor,is fourth with Prince Panache on a score of 42.6. Beale Morris of Middleburg, VA and Pathfinder stand in fifth place with 49 penalty points. The 2000 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented by Bayer, is the only three-day event contested at the Olympic level in North America. Sydney Olympic course designer Michael Etherington-Smith also has the honor here at Rolex, the only domestic Olympic Selection Trial conducted at the four-star level for the United States Equestrian Team.
