British National Dressage Champions
Great Britain held their nationaldressage championships over the
weekend of September 17-19. Carl Hester and Legal Democrat reigned supreme in both the
Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Kur (71.78%). Peter Storr aboard Trapani was
close on their heels to finish as the reserve champion in both divisions.
Peter Storr came back with Gambrinus to capture both the Intermediare II and
the Prix St. George Championships. Nicky Barrett guided Cerruti to third in
the Prix St. George and won the Intermediare I. Ferdi Eilberg was successful
with Broadstone Warianka and squeezed into reserve championships at both Prix
St. George and Intermediare I.
Canadian Dressage Championships
Canada has a unique system for the national dressage championships - the same set of judges
officiate at three different sites across the country for nine days and the championship
is determined based on the highest scores of all the regions.
Liz Hopps and Elymas had represented Canada at the World Equestrian Games last year in Rome,
and proved again this year that they are at the top
of the field by winning the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle
Championships.
On the opposite coast of Canada, Gina Smith rode Fledermaus to the reserve title. Leslie Reid,
from British Columbia, captured both the championship and reserve awards at the Advanced Level.
