The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) exists to preserve, promote, and perpetuate the Morgan horse. Founded
in 1909, the Morgan Horse Club (as it was then called) was formed to support the Morgan breed. In 1971 the club underwent reorganization and was renamed the American Morgan Horse Association. The newly named
Association's offices were in Hamilton, New York, for a number of years with brief moves to both New Hartford and Westmoreland, New York, preceding the establishment of its
permanent headquarters in Shelburne, Vermont in 1988.

The goal of the CMHA is to promote an understanding and appreciation of
the Morgan as the ideal family horse, while preserving the romance and tradition of the breed. We encourage improvement of the Morgan stock in Canada and carry out a system of registration for purebreds and part breds through the Cdn. Livestock Records Corporation. We wish to establish the Morgan as a respected breed demonstrating the versatility of the horse as a show horse, trail horse, family horse and sport horse and to foster good will between our members, the general public and similar Morgan Associations.
The CMHA represents over 1000 owners and breeders across Canada. The association was established in 1960 and incorporated in 1969. We have an active youth group, hold annual conventions and meetings, offer two award systems, maintain an historical database and publish a bi-monthly magazine. We have registered over 10,000 Morgans and over 2,000 part bred Morgans to date and we look forward to continued growth into the next century.
