Hi, my name is Deann DaSilva. I would like to take a minute to tell you why I started a home based business, and how I can help you realize the same dream.

In 1996, I commuted 30 miles to my day job. I would leave home at 5:30 am and return at home 5:30 pm. My husband also worked full time and our 2 year old son spent 11 hours a day in daycare.

Remembering back to those days sometimes brings tears to my eyes. I remember the feeling of guilt that my child spent more time with his day care provider than he did with us. She saw his first steps and heard his first words; those are things I can never get back and it breaks my heart.

My husband and I wanted to have a second child, but I was not willing to under the circumstances. I decided to find a position closer to home. I looked into many job opportunities and concluded that starting a home based business was my best option.

I had grown up on a horse ranch and my life's long dream was to work in the horse industry. The Internet was booming, so I decided to start an on-line equestrian community.

I was not a programmer, but I also did not have the budget to hire one. I hoped to find software to help me, so I dialed into the Internet and looked for recommendations. I joined a couple chat rooms and took the advice of experts in the field.

At that time (1996), the general consensus regarding web editors was: "they are not worth their packaging". I was told to hard code my site in HTML. That posed one little problem: I didn’t know HTML. I bought a book, taught myself HTML and that was that.

I launched Horsequest.com in 1996 and by 1998 I was making enough money on HQ to quit my job and work full time from home. The timing could not have been any better. My second son was born in October 1998. Some of my best memories are of my son sleeping in my lap as I programmed away.

It took me two years to build a profitable home business, because I had to build everything from scratch, figure things out on my own and learn from my mistakes. Today there are literally hundreds of turn-key home businesses that can become profitable within a couple of months with the right support team and advisers.

I know what owning a home business has done for me and my family; and I am passionate to help other people realize the same dream by providing resources, guidance and support.
